I spent a week and a half in Colombia before buying a phone. I had conversations with people about feeling “liberated”
by my inability to communicate at every moment of the day, but I don’t think I really meant it. I mean, I was so happy when I finally got a phone that I drew a picture of it.
When I got my phone, I was very excited to start making calls and sending texts, but I soon realised I had no one to contact. The next day at work I took everyone’s phone numbers and now I am a regular mobile phone user. Having said that, I can still leave it switched off for a day without anyone noticing.
The phone is very basic, a long way from my iPhone convenience at home. But I like it. It does the job. It’s practically the same as the phone I had in Chile, except better, because this one has a colour screen. Set me back about £15, which I think is pretty fair. A fine investment.
